Realme C12: Design and display

It is very smart of Realme to reinvent design patterns on its smartphones that are positioned at a difference of merely Rs 500 from each other. But if the gap is wide, the design needs a little change, don’t you think?

Realme C12 has those little changes in the form of a trapezium-styled pattern at the back panel. It still has those lines all across the panel, which I liked on the Realme C11 but not so much on the C12 because of this new shape. For me, the design is just okay, nothing too praiseworthy about it. But it is not bad and will find takers. The camera design is all the same with the square-shaped island with rounded edges on top. The thing that has changed inside that island is the number of cameras, which I will talk about later. Realme C12 has a 6.5-inch LCD with that regular 60Hz refresh rate, which I did not have issues with. It shows good colours in videos and is large enough — something I personally like smartphones to have because I watch a lot of Netflix primarily on phones. The brightness is adequate but not enough for me to read the text under direct sunlight. I had to squint sometimes or just put my fingers to block sunlight on the screen. If you are someone who is mostly outside of your home and needs your phone constantly, I would not recommend Realme C12. And, yes, there is a waterdrop-style notch also that is pretty much standard these days on Realme phones.

Realme C12: Performance and battery

Realme C12 uses the same MediaTek Helio G35 processor that its junior sibling C11 does. Which caused me to think that the performance on both smartphones will nearly be the same. No, it is not.

The Helio G35 on C12 seems optimised more than its counterpart on C11 is. But the major role in performance bumping is that of the memory. Realme C12 has 3 gigs of RAM while the C11 has just 2GB, which only makes sense why C12 does not lag as much as the C11 does. I did not have issues opening apps, such as WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram, multiple times a day or juggling between multiple apps. The games run smoothly too but do not get too ambitious with gaming. You can play PUBG Mobile and other games on it but keep the graphics on low. Or better, play PUBG Mobile Lite because I played it and found it way smoother. Even though there is 1GB more memory, C12 still struggles to load apps occasionally.

Realme C12 runs Realme UI based on Android 10. I like Realme UI for its fluidity and easy to access approach. You will get the navigation button by default but you can switch to gesture navigation from the settings, just like I did. But apart from the regular stuff about Realme UI features, the C12 brings a new one. It has got a Super Power Saving mode that is dedicated to the 6000mAh battery on the smartphone.

But these scenarios will rarely arise, thanks to the 6000mAh battery. It is a huge battery, both literally and figurately, because while it can keep the smartphone lights on, it does add to the weight. Realme C12 weighs 209 grams, which is not exactly on the lighter side. I could feel the heft of the phone when holding it for a long duration, so it is advisable to use it for short periods and avoid bulky mobile cases on the C12. Anyway, talking about the battery, it is long-lasting. It gave me a screen time of about seven to eight hours, which is a lot to have as a user who is not glued to their smartphone all the time.

Realme C12: Cameras

Realme C12 has three cameras at the back: a 13-megapixel primary sensor, a 2-megapixel depth sensor, and a 2-megapixel black and white sensor. Now, two of these sensors were also on the C11 but the third one here has an auxiliary role rather. You can use it for black and white filters dedicatedly but otherwise, it helps the main sensor give more sharpness to photos.

Photos shot using the night mode turn out with a good level of brightness enough to allow me to see everything clearly. The autofocus, however, takes some time and is not instant. I also liked my selfies clicked on Realme C12 and felt like posting them on Instagram but they do not turn out well-detailed.
